Sony Ericsson teases with 12 MP 'Idou'

Sony Ericsson have just announced their very own multimedia monster - the Sony Ericsson Idou.Sony Ericsson say they will market the phone under a different name once its ready with the final device.

Sony Ericsson has gone where no manufacturer has gone before ( Am hoping this is a sign of SE getting back to its pioneering ways) and come up with a device that will probably create as much hype, or even surpass, that of the original XPERIA.

The Sony Ericsson Idou is touted as a multimedia monster, and sony ericsson has equipped it with a 12-megapixel camera ( probably equipped with Sony’s new 1/2.5-inch 12.25 megapixel sensor) with xenon flash and touch focus. The camera is hidden under a sliding cover.

And obviously, touting the Idou as a multimedia device means that SE has equipped it with an awesome screen. The touch screen is generous with its 3.5 inches and 16 million colors. It has a 16:9 aspect ratio (360 x 640 pixels) and it's also the first device presented to ever run on the brand new open source Symbian user interface that's still being developed by the Symbian Foundation.

Sony Ericsson traditionally have had good YouTube integration and with the Idou they would offer 16:9 aspect ratio and high-definition option. GPS and Wi-Fi and the relatively compact size are just an added bonus to that already impressive novel package.

Here's the Sony Ericsson Idou Demo Tour for you to check out:

Surprisingly, the Idou has a microSD card slot rather than Sony's proprietary M2 card slot. The Sony Ericsson Idou is still nowhere near completion though - they haven't even come up with a marketing model name yet as Idou is still code name for the device.

The show-off devices that the Sony Ericsson staff had were basic early-stage prototypes. Amazingly though the new user interface is perhaps faster and more fluid than everything else that we have seen (including iPhone). Now this is really something!
mrgreen Hope the final device is as responsive as these protos.
