Sony Ericsson launches PlayNow Plus with unlimited music downloads

About two weeks ago, we posted news about a possible unlimited music download service from Sony Ericsson that’d soon be announced - well, that happened today, and it’s called PlayNow Plus.

The service will initially be exclusively launched with Telenor in Sweden during the fourth quarter of the year, but it will be launched in other parts of the world on several carriers beginning in 2009.

PlayNow Plus will be extremely easy to use - you simply download the songs from your phone or PC, and that’s it!

- With PlayNowTM plus, there will be no more barriers, we’re giving consumers the freedom to instantly discover, download, play and recommend all the music they want-anytime, anywhere, said Lennard Hoornik, Corporate Vice President and Head of Marketing at Sony Ericsson in a press release.

As said, the service is initially only available in Sweden with Telenor. It’ll cost about £10 a month (data transfer included, as far as we’re aware), and the W902 - which is the phone PlayNow plus will launch with - is going to come with a total of 1,000 songs preloaded, just to get you started. Once you’re no longer with Telenor, you get to legally keep the 100 most played songs.
