Xperia X10 may get multi-touch after all

Just a couple of weeks back, there had been a lot of talk on this issue with Sony Ericsson's Product Manager confirming that the X10's lack of multi-touch was a hardware issue.

However Mobiles.co.uk, which is a subsidiary of Carphone Warehouse, claims that it has got inside information that the X10 will indeed get an update to Android 2.1 or higher in September and this update will enable multi-touch on the XPERIA X10 as well.

At a press event for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 launch, a Sony Ericsson rep responded to criticisms of the outdated OS by stating that a “very big update” was due in September of this year. Though obviously not wanting to give too much away, very big to us would definitely point towards the X10 joining the Android 2.1 league. Or maybe Sony Ericsson will steal the show and will be updating to a new and as yet unreleased version of Android!

Their inside man was also able to shed some light on the lack of multi-touch and potentially quash the rumours that the limitations are hardware based. Though specific details were thin on the ground, apparently multi-touch is also something that is definetely on the cards.

So folks, Watch out for September!
